Introduction

The School of Information Engineering, Nanchang University traces its roots back to the Radio Physics major of Jiangxi University and the Department of Electrical Engineering of Jiangxi University of Technology, both founded in 1958. It is now a teaching and research unit integrating talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services, having achieved remarkable accomplishments in discipline development, faculty building, and talent training.

The school comprises five teaching departments: the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, the Department of Energy and Electrical Engineering, the Department of Automation, and the Preparatory Department of Integrated Circuits. It houses two teaching centers, including a National Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a professional experimental center. Additionally, it has established five provincial and ministerial-level scientific research platforms: the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Signal Processing and Intelligent Communication, the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Systems and Human-Computer Interaction, the Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Embedded Systems, the Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Medical Information Detection and IoT, and the Ministry of Education Engineering Center for Spatial Information Intelligent Perception Technology.

The school boasts a comprehensive talent training system covering undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. It holds a first-level doctoral program in Information and Communication Engineering, first-level master's programs in Control Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering, six professional master's programs in the Electronic Information field, and one professional master's program in the Energy and Power field. At the undergraduate level, it offers four programs—Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Automation—all of which are National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. Among them, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Automation have passed the Engineering Education Professional Certification of the Ministry of Education.

The school has an excellent faculty team, with a total of 173 staff members, including over 140 full-time teachers. More than 100 teachers hold senior titles, and nearly 100 have doctoral degrees. It is home to a large number of high-level leading talents such as national-level and provincial-level talents. Over the past five years, the school has achieved abundant scientific research results, winning four first prizes of Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Awards or Technological Progress Awards, undertaking more than 200 national and provincial projects, publishing over 1,000 papers in important domestic and foreign academic journals and conferences, and obtaining more than 400 authorized invention patents.

The school continuously reforms its talent training model, cultivating and delivering a large number of outstanding new engineering talents to the country and society. Currently, it has over 2,200 undergraduate students and more than 1,200 master's and doctoral students. In the past three years, students have won more than 150 national awards and over 360 provincial awards in discipline competitions such as the China International College Students' Innovation Competition and the National Postgraduate Electronic Design Competition. The further study rate and employment rate of graduates have maintained a high and stable trend, with excellent overall employment quality.

Focusing on the needs of national strategies, social progress, and economic development, the school has set the goal of building a first-class college with distinctive disciplinary features and interdisciplinary integration. Adhering to the educational philosophy of "People-Oriented, Morality-First, and Learning-Focused," it takes the lead in the technological revolution and industrial transformation, striving to create a magnificent picture of "Boundless Prospects, Intelligent and Beautiful School of Information Engineering" and making greater contributions to the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation.

Research Platforms

The Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Signal Processing and Intelligent Communication:

This laboratory is a provincial key laboratory established and administered by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Guided by the discipline of Information and Communication Engineering, it focuses on tackling key common technological challenges in Jiangxi’s electronic information industry. Through multidisciplinary research and technological innovation in the information and communications field, it is committed to supporting Jiangxi Province’s “1269” manufacturing industrial chain upgrading initiative.

The Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Systems and Human-Computer Interaction:

Since its establishment in 2009, the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Systems, supported by the School of Information Engineering at Nanchang University, has built advanced research platforms in areas such as human–computer interaction and virtual reality, tele-robot control, and intelligent perception and computing. It has successively led and undertaken a number of research projects, including the national “863” Program, sub-projects under the “973” Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and key science and technology programs of Jiangxi Province.

The Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Embedded Systems:

Oriented toward the international frontier and national strategic priorities, the Center takes ubiquitous information networks and the Internet of Things—emerging strategic industries—as its application context. It aims to address a series of key issues and technologies in the monitoring, utilization, research, and service system for dynamic spatiotemporal, multi-scale, multi-dimensional information in complex environments. The Center comprises four divisions: the “Radar and Intelligent Sensing Technology Laboratory,” the “Image, Video and Machine Learning Laboratory,” the “Broadband Communications and Information Networks Laboratory,” and the “Near-Sensor Data Storage and Intensive Computing Laboratory.” In alignment with the implementation of Jiangxi Province’s “Six One” Initiative and the development of ten strategic emerging industries, the Center leverages Nanchang University’s strengths in multidisciplinary integration and collaboration to carry out innovative and comprehensive research, thereby building a high-level collaborative innovation system and a base for cultivating top-tier talent.

The Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Medical Information Detection and IoT:

Relying on Nanchang University and five medical enterprises and hospitals, this Engineering Research Center integrates multi-dimensional resources from universities, industry, and hospitals. It strengthens deep industry–education integration in three areasintelligent medical imaging and detection, intelligent optoelectronic medical sensing, and intelligent IoT-based information systems and analytics—and establishes platforms for technology transfer and application demonstration. It empowers the digital and intelligent transformation of Jiangxi’s core industries, including electronic information and healthcare, and supports Jiangxi’s efforts to build high-level universities and to make its digital economy stronger and more competitive.

The Ministry of Education Engineering Center for Spatial Information Intelligent Perception Technology:

The Center is oriented toward major national strategic needs such as aerospace science and technology and artificial intelligence. Focusing on the development of Jiangxi Province’s industries—including electronic information, BeiDou navigation, AI, and satellite applications—it studies the common foundational and key technological challenges involved in the intelligent sensing, processing, interaction, control, and decision-making of multidimensional spatial information, and builds an innovation capability in intelligent sensing for aerospace information spanning “basic research–applied research–results commercialization–industrial development.”
